Here are some revealing maps of the Mt Hood situation. It looks like there has been significant activity at this volcano for the past 12 years. The volcanic and seismic activity of Mt Hood seems to be intensifying, but the question is whether it's time for an eruption or not? It is interesting to note that the greatest activity at Mt Hood took place around the time of solar max.
The above graph shows the daily average solar X-ray flux from Jan 1, 1990 to 2002.
Above is the volcanic activity for Mt Hood during the same time period. Notice the correlation between the solar X-ray flux activity and the volcanic related seismicity. From this it can be deduced that if the volcano does not erupt very soon, it will likely get quiet for another 7 years or so. The relationship of the solar activity to this volcano's activity is yet another demonstration that high energy radiation from the sun (probably neutrinos) may cause internal earth heating.
